Mayors Blog – Week Ending 8th December 2013

Posted on 16th December 2013

Thursday 5th December  This evening we were treated to a show from three of Chard’s primary schools choirs, Avishayes, Manor Court and Redstart who all came together to create “The Spirit of Christmas” in the Guildhall. The children were delightful, singing all our favourites and a few modern carols as well and more money was raised for the Mayor’s charities both with ticket sales and the raffle.

Friday 6th December  At the invitation of the Mayor of Crewkerne Town Council, Andy and I attended the CUDOS Christmas concert. This group is the Crewkerne Light Operatic Society and the evening included mince pies and mulled wine at half time. The group had put together a wonderful show of songs and sketches which ended in the whole room singing Christmas carols.

Saturday 7th December   At 11am I was honoured to open the Ferne Animal Sanctuary’s Christmas Craft Market. There were lots of local crafts people set up in the barn ready to sell their wares and Santa was due to arrive just as we had to leave, but I did have my photo taken in his Grotto. At 12 middayAndy and I attended Combe St Nicholas School’s Christmas Fayre for the unveiling of their tapestry. The children and staff were dressed up in Victorian clothes and sung some good old favourites like “the old bull and bush”. The tapestry was a work of art with so many animals hidden in the picture, I am sure it will hang with pride in the school for many years and will be a talking subject for generations.
