  • Planning applications are actually made through South Somerset District Council and will be reviewed and monitored by a Planning Officer, however once an item appears on our agenda we will have plans at the Guildhall for people to view. If a planning application has been made in an area close to your home you will most likely receive a letter advising you that the application is available to view at the Guildhall. You cannot take away these plans but photocopies can be made. If you’re not sure, you can always give us a call and we can find out if we have received it. If you would like view a planning application online, they can be found on the SSDC website: www.southsomerset.gov.uk.
  • Any waste that is dumped in and around the town is cleared up by Chard Town Council.South Somerset District Council is responsible for clearing up and collecting of materials that have been dumped without permission on a highway or a council-owned land. They also investigate all incidents of fly-tipping for possible prosecution. Their contact number is 01935 462462.If the materials that are fly-tipped are hazardous, for example waste oil, fuel or asbestos, then please contact Somerset County Council on 0300 123 2224.If the fly-tip is on private land, there is nothing Chard Town Council can do but suggest reporting it to the police.
  • The Amenities Team is responsible for a number of operations within the town some of which are carried out under contract for South Somerset District Council. This work includes the removal of litter and emptying of litter bins, emptying dog bins, removing fly tipping, removal of graffiti and weed spraying. The Team also carries out numerous other duties including cleaning the streams in town, pressure washing the sculptures and maintaining street furniture. During the winter months the team is involved with gritting the town centre which is done on behalf of Somerset County Council.
