Chard Saturday Street Market
Chard Town Council formally took over the management of the outdoor street market in September 2012. This was formally operated by South Somerset District Council. A Royal Charter dating back to 29th June 1683 empowered the town to hold three annual fairs and three weekly markets on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The market is comprised of a variety of stalls ranging from fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and other non produce items such as clothing and carpets.
If you are interested in booking a pitch in the Saturday Market please contact us on 01460 239567.
Chard Antiques, Vintage, Collectables & Craft Market
Every Thursday morning there is an indoor market at the Guildhall in Chard. Started in 1967 as an Antiques Fair this event has evolved over the years to include antiques, collectables and vintage items for sale.
In recent months Chard Town Council has been working in partnership with Chard Amateur Theatre Society (CATS) in the running of the Thursday Café; enhancing our Market experience and enabling CATS to raise additional funds for their group with the profit from the sales of refreshments.
Unfortunately, due to circumstance CATS are no longer able to continue to run the café so we are on the lookout for another local voluntary group who might be interested in developing this opportunity and raising some funds for their group. Ideally you will have some catering experience and be willing to hold the necessary hygiene certification to prepare and sell food.
If you think this might be you, then please get in touch! You can contact the Town Clerk on firstname.lastname@example.org or by calling our main reception phone on 01460 239567.
Come and take a look, you’ll be amazed what you can find!
