Chard Town Council formally took over the management of the outdoor street market in September 2012. This was formally operated by South Somerset District Council. A Royal Charter dating back to 29th June 1683 empowered the town to hold three annual fairs and three weekly markets on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The market is comprised of a variety of stalls ranging from fruit and vegetables, meat, fish and other non produce items such as clothing and carpets.
The Council also manages a Thursday Antiques Market which started up in 1967 continues to operate. The Guildhall cafe is open too offering a range of home cooked meals, snacks and beverages.
If you are interested in booking a pitch in any of the Markets or the Antiques Fair please contact us on 01460 239567.
