Mayors’ Blog – Week Ending 9th March 2014

Posted on 13th March 2014

On Monday 3rd March I visited Chard Hospital to talk to the patients, this is something I promised to do when I did my Christmas visits. Chard Hospital is a fantastic facility where local people can recover from operations and be near to their families.

On Wednesday 5th and Friday 7th March – Mark the Mace Bearer and I visited the Laurel Centre and Chard Methodist Youth Club to talk to them about being mayor and the significance of the regalia.

In the evening of Wednesday 5th March I went to the Octagon theatre in Yeovil to watch the Duke of Edinburgh awards presented by David Hempleman-Adams. There were lots of young people receiving awards from Holyrood School and we were treated to a local choir and a talk from David. He told us a story of when he got to the South Pole and wanted to tell people he was there, after ringing his home and no one was in he rang a collect call to his grandmother who, when hearing that the call was from her grandson on the South Pole said “no I won’t pay for the call, silly boy” and promptly put the phone down.

On Thursday 6th March – I was invited to watch the old kennels at Ferne Animal Sanctuary being knocked down ready for the work to commence on their new project. There are still a few dogs that need re-homing or fostering while this project is being put into place so if you think you can help give them a ring.
