Mayors Blog – Week Ending 1st February 2015

Posted on 9th February 2015

After the Pantomime and jumping through the mangle in Widow Twankey’s laundry every night you will be glad to hear everything is back to normal in the Mayoral diary. On Thursday 29th January Garry the Deputy Mayor hosted the civic evening for the Pantomime, this is a great opportunity for the Chain Gang (nickname for a group of Mayors) to get together. You will have noticed that quite a few of the events we attend are outside Chard and can be as far away as Weston Super Mare or Axbridge. Inviting other Mayors gives an importance to any event, starts the ball rolling with ticket sales and forges bonds between towns. It gives us all an opportunity to share ideas and experiences; did you know that the mayors and town clerks of Chard, Ilminster and Crewkerne meet regularly to talk and help each other?

On Thursday 5th February I had the great pleasure in helping Chard’s carnival royalty to present cheques totalling seven thousand pounds to 24 local groups in our community all the recipients were represented and they gave us a quick run down of what they are going to spend the money on, from tents to a plate warmer…I am looking for some invites to some of the children’s groups as money was spent on cooking equipment…did I hear the word cake mentioned?
