Mayor’s Blog – Week Ending 18th August 2013

Posted on 19th August 2013

On Tuesday 13th August in the evening Andy and I attended a quiz at the Gallery in Chard which was in aid of the mayors charities. The quiz was great fun and we enjoyed the music and family fortunes rounds best (I think they were the easiest!) Simon and Tracey and all the regular quizzers made us feel really welcome and all the prize money was very kindly donated back to the fund so we banked £161 on Weds. We are looking forward to going again soon.

On Saturday 17th August I attended the first birthday of @theunit in Chard Business Park, I was lucky enough to open it last year and was honoured to be asked to cut their birthday cake. There was plenty for all the family to do, icing gingerbread men, flower arranging, crafting as well as a BBQ and the usual fitness fun. Nina and the team have really gone the extra mile to make this venture a success; I am hoping to be able to attend the 10th birthday party. Well done everyone!

Later on that day I visited Sunnymeade’s summer fete, the weather was against us unfortunately but everything was moved inside and Kelly Leigh’s little dancers kept us amused to open up the afternoon. The cakes made by the staff were lovely and there was plenty to do as well as talk to the residents and staff, the money raised will go to the residents extras like entertainment so it was nice to see so many people supporting the event.

On Sunday 18th August we held the balloon “celebration of life” service at the Methodist church, Cresswell and the team at the church were wonderful and Maria of Sues flowers and Barry from B Gibbs funeral services organised and sponsored the balloons for us so every penny donated went to the charities. The service was very moving as everyone who was there had lost someone but the theme was to remember the good things we shared and not to mourn too much. A great big thank you to all who came and those that helped organise this event.
