Mayors Blog – Week Ending 11th January 2015

Posted on 4th February 2015

It’s winter and January and early February are the quietest months of the year for invitations, usually caused by the unreliable weather so I haven’t been very busy the last two weeks with Mayoral engagements. I did have the pleasure of handing over a cheque for £643.19 to the Calendar Girls and Boys from Chard for their Cancer charities. This is half of the money raised from the Santa Run which took place just before the Town Team switched on the Christmas lights in November. All entrants got sponsored and the final amount was shared with my five Chard charities.
The lull in engagements has given me time to learn my part for Chard Amateur Theatre Society’s (CATS) pantomime at the end of the month “Aladdin” where I will be part of the comedy Chinese policemen duo “Ping and Pong”. There seems to be quite a bit of falling over involved, I hope the knees stand up to the task! With all the bad world news this week it seemed to me that life would be so much easier if it was like pantomime, lots of fun and enjoyment where good always triumphs over evil and the hero gets the girl in the end… who knows we can always hope!
