Forde Abbey is situated 4 miles south east of Chard .There are brown tourist signs for Forde Abbey from the A30, A358 and B3165..  Founded by Cistercian monks almost 900 years ago, it is one of the oldest family homes open to the public in England.  As well as 30 acres of award winning gardens, the Abbey is famous for its ornate plaster ceilings and magnificent set of Mortlake tapestries. A recent addition to the gardens is the Centenary Fountain, the highest powered fountain in the country. Gardens open daily from 10am until 4.30pm
